We are Graham and Ruth Clark. We were married in Poole Registry Office on 9th March 2002 then we went on to St John’s Church in Broadstone for a blessing. Back then all we could do was create a CD of suitable music with “Wedding Songs” scrawled on it with an indelible marker pen. We have since improved on the original CD. We now have a lovely photo of ourselves and the date of our wedding. We also keep the CD inside a presentation case.

The songs we chose were:

4. Have I Told You Lately – Van Morrison
5. In A Country Churchyard – Chris de Burgh
6. Morning Has Broken – Cat Stevens
7. Grow Old With Me – John Lennon
8. Life Itself – George Harrison
9. Amazing Grace – Elvis Presley

The Beatles and John Lennon songs were my choice, being a big fan. In fact, because the original was only a demo version, I sang along to an instrumental version of Grow Old With Me to my new wife. George Harrison had sadly died a couple of months before, so also had to have a song included. Van Morrison’s had been a great romantic favourite to us both and Chris de Burgh’s song is a staple of Irish weddings, thus keeping Ruth’s Dublin family happy. Likewise, her new mother-in-law was a huge Elvis fan, hence his inclusion.

Six years later and Ruth is still playing our wedding CD and both of our young children know the songs so well. These songs take her back to those wonderful moments when we exchanged our wedding vows and made promises to each other in front of all of our families and friends. They always make us happy and I am sure they will do so for the rest of our lives together. We are so delighted that we have these, our favourite songs to play whenever and wherever we wish. Our wedding video has been watched but is now on top of our wardrobe gathering dust – the CD is played in the kitchen, in the car and in our bedroom, and will be played forever.

We promise you will feel the same about your own chosen songs. They must be chosen with care and loved by both of you. You will know the perfect songs for your special day. They will be poignant to you both. Just like everything from the wonderful dress to the perfect rings your ceremony CD will bring you so much joy on the day. And like our CD you will be playing it and be taken to happiness for many years to come.
